Senator visits Veterans Memorial Bridge

State Senator Tommy Williams (Woodlands) got a firsthand look at how the Veterans Memorial Bridge is put together and inspected. Williams, located center, is joined by TxDOT Area Engineer Chris Caron (left) and TxDOT Beaumont District Engineer Tucker Ferguson (right)

Williams, Chairman of the Senate Transportation and Homeland Security Committee, was able to see the intense inspection and monitoring process used on the bridge. TxDOT inspects the Veterans Memorial Bridge each year. Specialized equipment monitors any movements in the bridge's cables.

The bridge is one of only two cable-stayed bridges in Texas. Both, the Veterans Memorial and the Fred Hartmann in Baytown are in Southeast Texas.
