Neches River Bridge
If there is any project in our part of Southeast Texas that has generated quite a bit of attention, it has to be the I-10 Neches River bridge in Beaumont.
The bridge, also known as the Purple Heart Memorial bridge, is being completely rebuilt. The project involves removing and replacing the old structure with what is called a segmental bridge. The new bridge will look very much like the one on I-10 crossing the Trinity River.
Our latest video looks at the early stages of the project...and deconstructs some of the rumors about how traffic will be affected.

Very good production Marc. You know a 24 hour webcam of the bridge from one of the downtown buildings might be neat. Anywho keep up the good work. I would love to see more video about the NRB.
ReplyDeleteThanks! In fact, I believe we will have a webcam set up at the project. We will also continue to update what is taking place including a better description as to how the project will impact downtown exits.
ReplyDeleteLet us know if you have a specific interest about the project and we can definitely see about making some type of visual to explain.

are there plans to close the downtown entrance ramp? it seems the traffic entering at this point and mergeing is what causes the severe backup starting at 5:00 weekdays. i think if this traffic was routed to MLK it would cut down significantly on the length and duration of the back-up. Probably not fair to the downtown crowd but as one famous astronaut once said - "The needs of the many greatly out weigh the needs of the few" - Spock
ReplyDeleteThanks for the question.
ReplyDeleteThe eastbound ramp from downtown to eastbound I-10 will eventually be closed. The eastbound exit ramp to downtown will remain open. This is to allow workers to be rebuilding the eastbound portion of the bridge.
Look for all of this to take place in late January.
